Now comes 'White Chicks,' which is a bit of a departure - it's the Wayans brothers' least embittered and most complicated movie so far, and probably the best. (The brothers weren't involved in 'Scary Movie 3.') In 'Scary Movie,' Marlon Wayans plays a bug-eyed stoner, and his first line evokes the opening scene of 'Hollywood Shuffle': in exaggerated Ebonics, he announces, 'I do be going to school!' The two younger brothers wrote and starred in 'Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood,' produced by Keenen, which took aim at earnest hip-hop morality tales like 'Boyz N the Hood.'ДЄnd 'Scary Movie' (2000), along with the disgusting and witless sequel, 'Scary Movie 2,' took a more scattershot approach, skewering 'Scream' and other teen movies. Oddly enough, Damon Wayans is the one who has had the most conventional career, landing a series of comic leads he now stars in the ABC sitcom 'My Wife and Kids.' Even when he wasn't funny, he was often riveting, whether he was portraying the staggering, homeless entrepreneur Anton or the wheelchair-bound superhero Handi-man. In a 'Star Trek' parody called 'The Wrath of Farrakhan,' Damon Wayans liberated the ship's non-white crew (including Spock), and delivered a rousing speech: 'My people have survived 400 years of slavery, 300 years of apartheid and 25 years of `The Jeffersons' in syndication.'Дamon was the meanest. Then came 'In Living Color,' his hit sketch comedy show, which made its debut in 1990 it was full of the same freewheeling indignation that drove the two films. It could be a joke straight out of 'Hollywood Shuffle': How do you turn black actors into mainstream stars? Dress them up as white women. Like just about everything the Wayanses do, 'White Chicks,' which opened Wednesday, is both a cheerful satire of obvious targets ( Paris Hilton) and a sly commentary on black Hollywood. As you might expect, these monstrous beige creatures fool everyone (asked about their sudden growth spurt, one squeaks, 'knee surgery'), which gives them a chance to participate in all the white-chick rituals: shopping trips, romantic mix-ups, the inevitable dance-floor showdown. Marlon and Shawn Wayans play brothers in the FBI who go undercover as a couple of callow socialites, the Wilson sisters. The only catch is that they're unrecognizable for most of the movie.
